Humber Social Enterprise Accelerator

Social Enterprises are an increasingly vital component of the U.K economy, and social enterprises in the Humber region are no exception. Whether it’s impact made by social businesses on social, environmental, cultural, heritage or health challenges, social enterprises need a particular type of support to flourish – a type of support that is not always best served by generic business support programmes.

According to a report by the UK ScaleUp Institute, ‘social scaleups’ can add immense value to their local and regional economies by creating jobs, generating increased revenues to re-invest into their activities, and by scaling their impacts on the their communities. And yet, social scaleups still face commonplace growth barriers, such as access to right amount and type of finance, access to the right talent and sills, and contextual knowledge of UK markets and infrastructure all cited as obstacles to growth.

#GrowMySME is therefore delighted to announce a new partnership with leading voluntary, community and not for profit sector support organisation Northbank Forum to bring you the Humber Region’s first ever Social Enterprise Accelerator – The Humber SEA. The programme, running for 12 months from January 2020, will support existing social enterprises operating in the Humber who have the capacity to grow, create jobs and increase productivity. Support will be tailored to the specific needs of each organisation, and provided through one-to-one guidance and coaching, peer to peer sessions and one-to-many masterclasses.

Humber SEA – Eligibility

To receive support through the programme, social enterprises must complete an expression of interest form and registration form, and meet the eligibility requirements, which as a minimum include:

  • Have a turnover of less than €50m or a balance sheet of less than €43m
  • Have received less than €200,000 State Aid in a rolling 3-year period
