Business start up grants

Give your business a £1,000 cash injection

Start-up businesses across the Humber can now apply for a new ICT grant of £1,000 through the Humber Business Growth Hub’s #GrowMySME Programme. If you’ve been in business for less than 12 months and need funding to help with the cost of connection to superfast broadband, IT equipment or software, the ICT for Growth Business Start-Up Grant could be the perfect solution.

The grant is available to all eligible SMEs in Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, North East Lincolnshire and North Lincolnshire who have been trading for less than 12 months.

Part of the #GrowMySME Programme

The #GrowMySME Programme is supported by the European Regional Development Fund 2014 – 2020 to enable small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to grow by offering specialist one-to-one advice, workshops and grant schemes.

Start-Up Grants of £1,000 are available for projects totaling £2,000 – £2,500

Our new grant will help start-up businesses with the cost of ICT set-up costs such as getting connected to superfast broadband (30mbps+) and initial 12 months contract costs, back-up systems, software or the purchase of one PC, laptop, or printer.

The grant can also be used towards the cost of a new website and digital marketing to help give new businesses a boost when it comes to promoting themselves.


Grant Support available includes:

  • New or upgraded connectivity (30mbps+) including purchase of associated IT equipment e.g. routers, Wi-Fi boosters etc. initial 12 months contract costs
  • ICT Back- Up System
  • Specialist Software e.g. Microsoft Office, Accounting etc
  • Purchase of 1 PC or 1 Laptop
  • 1st Time Website or basic E-Commerce, Domain Name, 1st year Hosting
  • Digital Marketing (PPC, SEO, Analytics)
  • Printer
  • Other ICT related costs can be considered – please contact one of the team to discuss your proposed grant project

Grant process

The following documents must be submitted in order for your application to be processed:

  • #GrowMySME Registration Form
  • ICT for Growth Grant Application
  • Written Quotes – one per item (screenshots will be accepted)
  • Financial Information – latest accounts and cash flow (if available)

You must ensure that the both the registration form and grant application are completed as thoroughly as possible. The ‘About your project’ section on page two of the grant application form must include all the information as requested to ensure we have adequate information about your business and the project to be supported by the grant. Failure to do so may result in your application being delayed while we establish further information.

Upon receipt of your grant application, and only with written confirmation from the programme team, we may allow you to proceed with your grant project at risk. You must not proceed at risk unless you have written confirmation. Any expenditure incurred prior to this approval will be deemed ineligible.

If you do receive written confirmation to proceed at risk then we must stress that this is at the risk of you and your business.

Grant payment

A grant offer letter including terms and conditions will be issued once a grant application is approved. Please ensure you read and understand these in full before returning a signed copy. Offer letters can be signed electronically (by typing your name into the signature box) and returned via email. You will also receive a form requesting your business bank details at this stage. This should be returned as soon as possible to ensure your details can be set up on our payment system.

In order to claim your grant payment, you must submit the following:

  • Grant Offer Letter – this must be signed and dated
  • Business Bank Details Form –
  • Invoice/s – for all items purchased (including VAT if applicable)

Proof of Payment – a redacted bank statement, showing the total project spend including any VAT as applicable

Is your business eligible?

As a minimum, your business must:

  • Be trading in the Humber area – Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, North East Lincolnshire, North Lincolnshire
  • Have less than 250 full-time equivalent employees
  • Have a turnover of less than €50m or a balance sheet of less than €43m

If eligible, SMEs will be able to apply for all aspects of the #GrowMySME programme.
